Stephanie Abels
Hi, I'm Mrs. Abels
I was raised in Evansdale and have lived there since elementary school. My husband Scott have been married for 14 years. We have 3 children, Brodie (21), Rebecca (14), and Turner (11). Brodie just graduated in 2012 and joined the Air Force. :) We enjoy spending time at our trailer in Harpers Ferry with our families and friends. When we are not in Harpers Ferry, I enjoy spending time outside enjoying a nice run, walking, riding bikes, reading, and scrapbooking. I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1998 with a degree in Elementary Education and a special education minor. I have been teaching for 17 years, the last 15 of which have been at Dunkerton. The most important skill I will teach to 3rd graders is for them to be independent motivated learners who have a strong desire to achieve and do their very best.
It's very rewarding finding out about the different learning styles your child has and encouraging them to do their very best. School can be a very rewarding environment, where students should be encouraged to explore and build on their everyday experiences. I am excited to build a strong classroom community where students delight in the unknown and am very excited to be a facilitator in their learning process.
Teaching special education has allowed me to build many very positive and important relationships with families over time. I have seen the struggles of many parents just wanting their child to do their very best. And have delighted in the opportunity to encourage and see the progress of students. I know that students learn so much more when learning in a positive environment where they feel confident to try. This team effort with parents will make positive learning a possibility for all.
I have been very lucky to wake up every morning doing what I LOVE. My students will be greeted each day with a smile and an attitude that shows them that "I am so glad you're here!" Each new day with students brings about many new opportunities to succeed. I am very excited to be teaching 3rd grade this year and working as a 3rd grade team with Mrs. Brandle.
I look forward to getting to know each one of my students and working closely with parents as partners to ensure their child achieves to the very top of their potential. This is going to be an amazing school year!
